With so much work on LLMs and generative methods this is not a controversy. Terse is not “not recursive”. But if you want a non-recursive language just make one. Groups that use non-recursion are often less efficient, they have to use many people to do what one could.  But that has little or nothing to do with evolution of languages. If you look deeper it can matter. Societies it matters. Pretty much everything is possible. You pick how you want to spend your allotted decades or years, and then you die.
